Trans Atlantic Crossing (towards Europe)

Date: 18/6-19/7 2015
(all pictures are clickable)

This was my first trans-Atlantic crossing with this boat. After I bought the boat, in Fort Lauderdale, I did my best to prepare it for a crossing for one month. My first crossing attempt failed: after 5 days I had to get back as I had several damages which accumulated affected my security... (see this page) After the repairs were made, the second attempt went smoothly. This second attempt was characterised by not too much wind (I was "shaken" about 4 days, in total), and I did motor relatively a lot. For the second attempt, I sailed some 4.380nm (8.110km) in 29 days (19 till Azores, 10 for Belgium).

First a few pictures from Fort Lauderdale where I remained on the New River.

A little, simple video showing the surrounding of my berth... It was nice and relatively (because of the trains passing !) quiet.

A Sunday afternoon festivity there...

A video of the New River and the Intercoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale, as seen from my deck... (mostly accelerated)

Sailing...

Encounter at sea... Zenji (56m) Damage on day 1, but I continued... Nice weather at sea, but heavy thunder weather on land !
A weatherfront passing over... Full moon (blury) at sea One of my dried out unfortunate victims...

Some video images made during the crossing...

Azores...

The island of Faial dooming out of the fog/cloud The marina in Horta Inside Sport Cafe (world's best know sailors bar !)

Leaving the Azores...

The old town of Horta (island Faial) Pico São Jorge island Graciosa island (notice the lack of wind)
